10 Day Detox Diet

Losing ten pounds in ten days seems unbelievable! Especially if those ten pounds are lost by burning belly fat.  Unbelievable or not, that is exactly the promise of the 10 Day Detox Diet. The diet's author, Dr. Mark Hyman was on the Dr. Oz Show recently to promote his book "The Blood Sugar Solution 10-Day Detox Diet", where he made these claims and more!

Dr. Hyman considers sugar the root of all evil. He claims that sugar is eight times more addictive than cocaine! He blames sugar for hunger pangs, diet cravings, and long-term damage to your skin, organs and metabolism. Boo sugar!

The 10 Day Detox Diet isn't very complicated. It takes ten days (obviously) and focuses on flushing bad things out of your body. That boils down to eliminating processed foods and sugar. And Dr. Hyman says that you must eliminate sugar in every form: processed cane, honey, maple syrup, fructose, molasses, and any form of artificial sweetener. Additionally, hydrogenated oils and corn and soybean oils are off limits. Dairy is prohibited, along with gluten (wheat, rye, barley, etc.), alcohol, caffeine and beans. It will be a long ten days!

What does that leave to eat? You can eat a lot of proteins, like fish and chicken, and some vegetables (the ones without starch) plus seeds and nuts. Luckily, his book has suggested recipes and shopping lists.

In additional to a long list of "don't eat" foods and a short list of "do eat" foods, Dr. Hyman's book suggests some lifestyle changes that should remain after the ten day detox.  Some ideas are pretty common-place, like sleeping 7-8 hours a day. Other ideas are a bit more exotic, like writing in a journal for 15 minutes a day. More suggestions? Drink 8 to 10 glasses of water a day and take fiber before every meal to suppress your hunger and avoid insulin surges. A favorite suggestion: take an UltraDetox bath every day, consisting of Epsom salts, baking soda and lavender oil.
