The Fresh Diet

Many people eat poorly because they don’t have time to cook. Others say that they don’t know how. Fast food is their easy alternative, but that leads to poor health and weight gain. What can we do? The people at The Fresh Diet have one answer: delicious food delivered to your door that can help you lose weight! What’s not to like about that?

The Fresh Diet implements a simple concept: delivering good food that is nutritionally balanced in portion-controlled servings. Zalmi Duchman started the company back in 2005, maxing out credit cards and delivering food himself after work. Now, Duchman employs nearly 200 people, cooking meals in kitchens located in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Miami.

The Fresh Diet menu is based on the Zone Diet. That means that you get about 40% cabs, 30% protein and 30% “good” fats. Your actual calorie intake is based on your current weight and your goal weight. The allocation is well within the government’s guidelines for safe dieting: women get 1,200-1,400 calories a day and men get 1,600-1,800.

This is not a “one size fits all” meal plan. There are adjustments for food allergies, medical conditions and personal preferences. You can receive vegetarian meals, or meals without avocados. You can get low salt or low cholesterol meals. It is up to you, although the plan costs more if you want more than 8 food restrictions.

As to cost, the base plan costs $35 a day if you buy a month at a time. The “premium choice” plan, with unlimited food ‘dislikes’ costs an additional $10 per day. You get to choose your own meals from a web-based menu, which also keeps your diet balanced and within your calorie budget.

The food is delivered daily, six days a week. You are on your on for Saturday. It shows up on your front step in an insulated package. You get three meals, plus a savory snack and a sweet snack every day. The food is prepared from fresh ingredients and never frozen. Most reviewers are impressed by the taste and variety.

Could the Fresh Diet work for you? This is certainly one of the most expensive diets on the market. It is also one on the easiest to stick with. The food is restaurant quality and delivered daily, so there’s no excuse for falling off the wagon. And maybe the time saved staying out of the kitchen can be invested in exercise?
